Fall is officially here, and I’m loving the crispness in the air that’s been hinting at the cooler weather to come.

My oldest son announced that it’s time for Halloween decorations, and I think this year calls for an early start to the holiday season! Bring on the pumpkins, fall leaves and holiday treats. ????

Last month I told you about some of the ways my firstborn’s birth changed our lives. Lee is now far from the 5lb 12oz baby we brought home. He’s a young adult living with Down syndrome, challenging and inspiring me daily. My first Harlequin book, A Sheriff’s Star, is dedicated to him, and I hope by sharing a bit about Lee, it will mean more to you if you read the dedication.

Lee loves horseback riding, mystery movies, music, and books about animals and superheroes. He has sooo many books, just like his mom. He often sits with me while I write, tracing and underlining every word. Yes. He writes in his books, but we gave up fighting that battle years ago. Our nightly routine—that has many, many specific steps that must be performed in a certain order—includes watching an episode of Murder, She Wrote on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And he looks forward to every new Aurora Teagarden movie.

During the year 2020, I’ve learned to look for the good in every day, even if it’s only a smile. I hope you will enjoy time with family and friends both in person and from afar. And try to spend a few minutes of every day doing something you love!

XOXO,
Makenna

It was only supposed to be a temporary home…

He interrupts her plans…

When police chief Anson Curry returns a lost little girl to her frantic mother, his only goal is to ease the single mom’s anxiety. But it doesn’t take long for Tess Harper’s amazing child to have Anson wrapped around her little finger—and for Tess to have him thinking about a possible relationship. As for Tess, she’s tempted—even though she had planned to be in Oak Hollow, Texas, only temporarily. But after losing her father and brother in the line of duty, Tess thinks Anson’s job poses too much of a risk to her heart. And Anson has no plans to get involved with someone who’s planning on leaving.
